RE: TIMBER HARVEST PLAN NORTH OF LOMPICO
FILED BY ROGER BURCH
Dear CDF:
Due to the clear community concerns about the
recently filed Islandia Parcel Timber Harvest Plan, I request that a public
hearing be scheduled that will allow for full comment by local residents. I request the hearing be scheduled for an
appropriate evening at a location in Felton such as the Zayante Fire House or
the Felton Community Hall. If that
cannot be arranged, the hearing should be scheduled at the County Board of
Supervisors Chambers.
Considering the long history of community concern
about this parcel, and the extensive negotiations and discussions between
community groups and the owners, I feel that a timber harvest plan filed at
this time is extremely inappropriate.
The amount of marketable timber is limited, while the impact on the
water supply of an entire community is po9tentialy catastrophic. Moreover, the idea of subjecting all of
those who live in Lompico, Zayante, and adjacent areas to an entire summer of
helicopter logging operations is unacceptable.
I distinctly recall Ms. Drinkard's comments, while listening to the
helicopter operation conducted by the Big Basin Water Company on its property
off Jamison Creek, that no one should be expected to endure that for more than
10 days.
The people of the community should have the
opportunity to fully address their concerns.
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
JEFF
